Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) plays Kate, the titular antihero of the picture, in the latest installment of the John Wick action thriller franchise (‘bisexual’ neon lighting, stoic yet loveable assassins, a ticking clock). Kate goes on a journey to discover her killer with an unexpected partner — the teenage daughter of a previous target – with only a day to live. While the film earned only lukewarm reviews from critics, it isn’t the first to do better with audiences. Woody Harrelson, who plays her handler Varrick, who is also a father figure, joins Winstead in the film. IMDB
Kate goes on a job (killing the Kijima family one by one), but the lone male target, the Kijima clan’s chief, is soon accompanied by his little daughter, breaking Kate’s ‘no kids’ convention. Kate is told to take the shot, even if it means killing the daughter or leaving her a traumatized spectator, so she complies and stands there watching as the girl pleads for help over her father’s lifeless body.
